Each personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripherals such as a mouse or a printer, together with any applications that are currently installed on your system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, any application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard site scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server plans feature three Linux releases that you could choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being cost-free, the OSs are really stable and protected and the main reason to offer you the three of them is to make sure that you will be able to run every app that you'd like, because different pieces of software could have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of developers who have produced a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you choose, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to control your website hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need a different OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on your server as different applications may have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a reliable and safe web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
